Pranathi Diwakar has just completed her term as a Teaching Fellow in the Social Sciences at the University, where she earned her PhD in 2022, with a dissertation entitled “Resounding Caste: Practices of Distinction, Urban Segregation, and Musical Politics in Chennai, India”. That project investigates the contours of social inequality in contemporary, urban India and its diaspora through an ethnographic analysis of musical practices of meaning-making, distinction, and resistance to interrogate how they constitute and reproduce social inequality.
